A Solitude in the Ocean
The forthcoming exhibition A Solitude in the Ocean explores the influence of the sea which has always held a fascination for artists. Remote and beautiful coastal places were in the past chosen by monks and hermits as places of solitude and contemplation. As well as the visual spectacle of nature, as manifest on the western seaboard of Ireland, the solitude of lives lived in remote islands and coastal locations and the meditative quality of being on the edge of the ocean, are all enduring aspects of fascination for artists. This exhibition brings together work by many artists inspired by the sea but particularly highlights the work of Donald Teskey, Janet Mullarney and Pat Harris. 10 September - 10 November 2016.
